now that I can’t sleep, I try to remember what happened 20 years ago.
I remember that summer of 1997, I saw Pollyanna for the second time at the W’gong UniBar. the band is no longer there, nobody I know or went to school with, perhaps still remember this band. because I remember only a few of us enjoying their music.
am glad I was in the middle of their prime days.
I remember spending that new years eve doing extra hour for that chinese delivery Fortune Palace down at Kenny St. and make huge dollars that night. remember this is the time before the asian financial crisis. AUD was still 2000 against IDR. what a good time to make that extra dollar and spend on drugs 😂
am glad I survived the pressure.
I remember that it was hugely popular among my fellow countrymen, that student to be either on the ‘drugie’ side or the ‘religious’ side. for those on the middle, we be a good watch. trust me, I was among these people during our nation finest hour. but it was also a sad time, because some of them didn’t make it through 98. some of them are forced to discontinue the study, some of them are leisurely enjoying their ancestor’s trust fund.
well this bits and pieces were written as I reminder that an era will be changed. a trend, a fashion statement, your ‘cool crowd’, your scene; they change over time, over money, all over again.
am glad that I witness thoselittle pieces of history.

this is Rustam Tanawali.
he is our Road Construction Supervisor. he joined us in 2009. a local born and raised. he was involve in an accident outside worksite on the way home from work.
he carry his dismembered leg all the way to hospital. he did that while calling his wife and apologizing that he’s going to be home late.
this afternoon I decided to pay him a visit and making sure that he can still work at our site. saw him and his family smile to hear the news, I went back with butterflies on my chest.
moments like this made me stay in this course and be grateful of what we have.
now where’s my beer…

I invest my time, my thought and my money in pak Jokowi to become my president not some “pimpinan proyek”
if his word and meaning of work is to visit big project instead of seeing and listening to these hundreds of thousand of protesters, then he is not the president that I want for having that narrow vision. this is a bad investment.
despite the fact that we’re a hard worker, we’re also a nation of thoughts, hearts and minds. if he suggest we should get back to work, business as usual and forget about yesterday, am not buying it. that is some cold shit man.
it is true that there is a political actor that drives this. but that is not an excuse for the rest of us to keep working. you are a political actor as well, you’re the president and you need to be at the center of this. and this time we all need to sit down and really listen to everyone.
Indonesia isn’t built in a day and definitely isn’t built for workers. we’re a nation. a collective thoughts not a hive-mind. many ethnics not just one. we’re complex. and therefore, we are in the need a complex solution.
in the end, please listen to these people and put those rioters to sleep. if you want to be cold, be that cold.
some investors may want their money back. am not. still have faith in there somewhere. but just like any good investor, I have opinion. the opinion that needs to be considered.
